Another mass shooting has shaken the nation, but hit a little harder today since such young lives were taken. According to CNN at 6:04 p.m. CST, 20 school children and 6 adults are dead after a gunman stormed an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.
What on earth came over this gunman to open fire at an elementary school? My heart aches for the families, friends and co-workers of the victims. These innocent “babies” did nothing wrong and yet, they were taken from their parents today.
I’ve finally shut off the news coverage. I can’t stand to see these scenes played over and over. I can’t imagine what these poor families are dealing with right now. How do you tell your other children? How do you continue to breathe after such a loss? I sincerely hope that these folks reach out to their friends, family and religious leaders for the consoling love they can give.
President Obama addressed the nation today and sent his condolences to those affected. He wiped tears but kept his composure. I wept with him and said a prayer.
I am proud Christian woman. But this isn’t about religion. This is about the community of Newtown and the lives lost today. Please, regardless of how you do so, keep these folks in your thoughts. Say a prayer, light a candle, send good vibes or just hug your kids a little tighter tonight.
